ImmuDyne: High quality process revives interest in beta glucan

Supported by fresh research and backed by newly constructed, cutting edge manufacturing facilities, Immudyne is re-introducing European partners to the benefits of beta glucan at BIO-Europe Spring® 2010.

“The first experiences of Europeans with beta glucan were unfortunate as it was introduced some years ago in a far less efficacious version than ImmuDyne has been able to develop,” according to Robert Simmons, senior advisor to ImmuDyne, and CEO of management consulting firm, S.M.R. GmbH Zurich, Switzerland,.

“Today we have developed a purified, highly effective formulation of beta glucan that presents exciting potential for novel applications in oncology and infectious diseases, as well as the more widely known applications such as over-the-counter nutraceuticals and cosmetic products,” he said.

“At BIO-Europe Spring we are looking for strategic partners to co-develop new products and new applications, as well as distributors for existing products in European markets,” he said.

Founded in 1987, ImmuDyne is a pioneer and the leading company for research and development of beta glucans for nutraceutical and pharmaceutical products. In 1995 ImmuDyne became the first company to develop and market beta-1,3/1,6-D glucan, under the trademark of MacroForce®.

The ImmuDyne technology platform derives a highly concentrated particulate beta-1,3/1,6-D glucan at a purity many times greater than any other commercial process. This ultra purity has been demonstrated to be effective in smaller doses, whether used in over-the-counter products for health maintenance or clinical applications for immune response stimulation.

By stimulating the human immune system, beta glucan creates what Simmons calls, “an arsenal of defense” against viral, bacterial and fungal infections by rehabilitating and enhancing an immune cascade response.

Alan B. Weitberg, MD, at the Roger Williams Medical Center and Boston University School of Medicine, reported recently his findings that “the beta glucan molecule isolated from yeast is a safe, well tolerated adjunctive therapy for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.”

“It is known that beta glucan is an all natural compound which stimulates the immune response at the macrophage level resulting in the subsequent activation of other immune cells,” Dr Weitberg said, concluding that, “ImmuDyne’s beta glucan may be useful as a therapeutic agent as well.”

“There are years of research supporting the benefits of beta glucan, said Simmons. “Yet I believe the most compelling proof of effectiveness is that patients from the cancer studies continue to take ImmunDyne’s beta glucan products freely, because it works.”

“At BIO-Europe Spring we are not seeking financial support,” said Simmons, explaining that the company has built a stable revenue stream based upon sales of beta glucan products for agricultural and aquaculture applications.

ImmuDyne recently locked up patent protection for its beta glucan molecule after several years of contentious litigation. It is involved in the construction of a state-of-the-art production facility in Tennessee that will come on line for human immune response products in Q2 2010.

“The key messages I want to deliver are that ImmuDyne’s beta glucan is a premium product produced at the highest purity levels in the industry and delivers the most clinically effective beta glucan on the market,” said Simmons, adding, “and we can deliver this at a competitive price point.”
