BIO-Europe 2009′s glamorous receptions

01003Social networking has never been so glorious. The Schoenbrunn Palace’s Orangery, the imperial Redoute Halls at the Hofburg and the ballroom of Vienna’s town hall will be the setting for three evening events at BIO-Europe 2009.

Joining LISA VR in welcoming BIO-Europe 2009 will be the Ministry for Economic Affairs and Labor, the City of Vienna, the Austrian Business Agency and the Center for Innovation and Technology. In the recent years, over 140 life science companies have been established in Vienna.

Glamorous Biotech Networking in ViennaThe opportunity to share the glamorous imperial history of Vienna with fellow dealmakers, venture capitalists and life science executives include

  • Sunday, November 1, at 7:00 pm — LISA VR invites all participants to the Welcome Reception, which will take place at the Schoenbrunn Palace’s Orangery. Before the reception free guided tours for 360 BIO-Europe participants are available, lasting around an hour and starting every 5 minutes from 5:00 pm.
  • Monday, November 2, at 7:30 pm — The Austrian Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth will open up the Redoute Halls at the Hofburg, the former imperial city residence.
  • Tuesday, November 3, at 7:30 pm — Supported by the City of Vienna and Bayer Shering, the evening event will take place at the ballroom of Vienna’s town hall.

According to Michaela Fritz and Eva Czernohorszky, Managing Directors of LISA VR, “The biotechnology scene in our region already employs nearly 10,000 people many of whom specialize in red biotechnology.”

“Five life science universities, outstanding research institutions such as the Institute of Molecular Pathology and the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology, international corporations with headquarters in Vienna for the Eastern and South Eastern European markets, and numerous dynamic start-up companies, have combined to make the industry a showpiece for Austrian technology policy,” they explained.

The universities located in the capital and focused on life sciences include the University of Vienna, the Medical University of Vienna, the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, the University of Veterinary Medicine and the Vienna University of Technology.

Global life science players in Vienna include Baxter BioScience, Boehringer Ingelheim Austria, Eli Lilly’s Vienna School for Clinical Research, Sanochemia and Octapharma.

The Campus Vienna Biocenter today features 67,000 square meters of infrastructure for the mixed use and collaboration among institutions. A second 84,000 square meter life science facility for labs and offices will be opening in 2009 in time for the BIO-Europe event.
