BioPharm America™ moves to Boston September 15-17, 2010

September 18th, 2009 - Conference:

Set for Boston in September, a region with the highest density of biotech start ups anywhere in the world, BioPharm America 2010 is being organized in close cooperation with the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council to make this event the most productive business development events of the year in North America.

“I do not believe there is a richer area in biotechnology in the world than the Boston-Cambridge-Worcester region,” said Imran Nasrullah, Chief Business Officer, Massachusetts Biotechnology Council. “A simple test for any investor or pharma company is simply to ask how long would it take to meet with so many people who fit their goals compared to two days spent here.”

Founded in 1985, the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council represents more than 550 biotechnology companies and organizations involved with the industry. MassBio claims nearly 1,769 biotechnology drugs are being developed in Massachusetts, representing more than 7 percent of the global drug pipeline. In 2006, Massachusetts venture capitalists invested almost $760 million in biotechnology companies, comprising 18% of biotechnology venture capital investment in the United States.

Online scheduling of meetings will begin as early as June, 2010 with the 400 biotechnology companies active with the MassBio Council as well as the upstream groups responsible for out-licensing technologies from the prestigious research institutions clustered in the greater Boston area.

“Our strength is in innovation. Other regional biotechnology clusters might excel in more downstream activities like manufacturing, but we put our weight behind start-up companies and work hard to keep new projects from languishing or getting lost in the many universities in our region to be sure they get started on a path toward commercialization,” added Nasrullah.

These companies and institutions are experienced users of the partneringONE software that powers the annual MassBio Investors Forum, as well as the EBD Group events BioPharm America, BIO-Europe, BIO-Europe Spring and BioChina Partnering Forum.

Beginning its third year as an industry event, BioPharm America creates a robust exchange between hundreds of executives from venture capital firms, major pharmaceutical companies, academic institutions and biotechnology companies of every size from mature to start-up.

It is a pure partnering event focused on one-to-one meetings driven by the partneringONE software platform that schedules meetings and provides each participant with a dynamic personalized agenda and regular alerts for further meeting opportunities.

The backdrop for this intensive business development activity is a two-day conference program that features leading executives from across the life sciences industry. At BioPharm America held in San Francisco in September, 2009, panel discussions included licensing, investment and business development executives from AstraZeneca, Bayer HealthCare, Biogen Idec, Eli Lilly, Exelixis, Roche, Genentech, Gilead, Johnson & Johnson, Merck & Co., Pfizer, Shire Takeda and UCB.
