PTV interview: EBD Group is helping life science industry grow through partnering
The growth of EBD Group partnering conferences in Europe, and now in the USA, is the focus of a video interview by PharmaVentures Business Review. Managing Director for EBD Group, Carola Schropp, describes the power of partnering in building industry growth from big pharma to small biotechs.
“The landmark BIO-Europe event started when there were only 25 biotech firms in the United States”, explains Schropp in her interview with PharmaVentures Fintan Walton. In the next 12 years that event has grown to over 2,200 partnering executives, more than 10 times the original number of participants.
“The reason for this unprecedented growth for EBD Group’s events”, she states, “is that the Group is responding to the industry’s need for events purely dedicated to partnering where ‘it is just us, the business development executives,’ rather than with the distractions created by ancillary activities.”

BIO-Europe today has almost twice the participation of its nearest competitor and the BIO-Europe Spring® event, created in response to executives’ requests for continuity in meetings with potential partners, attracted over 1,400 delegates in only its second year.
“With BioPharm America™”, she added, “EBD Group is bringing its successful stand-alone partnering model to the United States, again in response to a need expressed by Life Science business development executives.”
“In partnering, it is not enough to meet once and think you can put a deal on the table,” says Schropp. “Partnering is done among people and requires successive meetings to build familiarity, confidence and to keep the potential deal moving forward.”
“Partnering is an active process that progresses from basic introductions to outlining the essentials of a potential deal and then the cautious steps toward real partnership.”
“The deal-making comes at the end of this process”, she concluded. “After that point the careful work of due diligence and negotiations move outside the scope of EBD Group’s partnering events.”
