Powering the Partnering : 300 Laptops Connected At Any Given Moment

What does it take to support partnering for Life Science on a scale as large and intensive as BIO-Europe Spring 2008?

The partneringONE software from EBD Group virtually connects 1,400 participants starting six weeks ahead of the event.

But suddenly during the three days in Madrid, it all comes together in the real world as participants shake hands in 5,800 face-to-face meetings.

The technical team behind the on-site Scheduling Desk at BIO-Europe 2008 shared some statistics:

  • 3,000 log-ins per day to the partneringONE software during the event.
  • From 250 to 300 conference laptops are connected to the network at any given moment during the event.
  • 40 gigabytes of internet traffic on the LAN network starting Monday and running through Tuesday mid-day.
  • Another 15-20 gigabytes of internet traffic passed over the wifi network available during the same period.
  • 5 kilometers of network cable was wired specifically for BIO-Europe Spring 2008 by the technical team ahead of the event
  • 107 notebook computers were installed for quick access by participants
  • 50 internet terminals
  • 32 dedicated partnering terminals
