BIO-Europe is the best place for “scouting”
Nov. 14, 2007 “We always attend BIO-Europe in force.” Two leading pharma executives take a moment to talk about the priority they give to partnering for driving growth, and why BIO-Europe is the place they chose to implement that strategy.
Fresh from the hottest plenary discussion at BIO-Europe 2007, “A Day in the Life of Experienced Dealmakers,” two of the panelist took a moment with Partnering News to talk about how the conference fits in their strategy to drive growth.
“All our success at Merck Serono is coming out of partnerships,” said Vincent Aurentz, Senior Executive Vice President for Portfolio Management and Business Development for Merck Serono International.
“It is critical that we are here at BIO-Europe to spend this time meeting new people and meeting with people we already know even to just hear about what new is happening.”
“The more we sit in our offices and work internally the worse off we will be. External relations are crucial for our success.“
“Our two biggest growth drivers are based on two compounds that came out of partnerships. This is success based on collaboration.”
“BIO-Europe is a big part of what we need to do, and we need to sponsor it so it keeps going and we need to participate actively in it to keep Merck Serono going.”
Michaels Yeomans, Senior Vice President for Global Business Development and Licensing at Bayer Schering Pharma said, “We have a big group here and this is the first opportunity for our team to come together as a group since the merger.”
“We always attend BIO-Europe in force because it is one of the best conferences for scouting. It’s heavy pharma participation and a very efficient setting providing an opportunity to meet with people we are currently negotiating with, and of course it is always good to be making new contacts.”
